Day #7 - Brittany Delgado and Brieana Delgado

This is the 2012 Oklahoma City University women's wrestling team, in the photo above, which included Brittany Delgado and Brieana Delgado from Hillcrest High School.

Brittany and Brieana were highly accomplished wrestlers that elevated women's collegiate wrestling while at Oklahoma City University. Brittany and Brieana Delgado were both WUSA High School All-Americans as well as four-time collegiate wrestling All Americans, with Brittany being a 3x collegiate champion. Oklahoma City University won four consecutive team titles from 2009-2012.

For these standout Hillcrest athletes, there were not many options ten years ago for wrestling in college. Brittany and Brieana established themselves as leaders in women's wrestling.

2015 - Brieana Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 3rd place, 130 lbs.
2014 - Brieana Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 4th place, 123 lbs. - Oklahoma City also was team runner-up
2013 - Brieana Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 3rd place, 123 lbs. - Oklahoma City also was team runner-up
2012 - Brieana Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 4th place, 130 lbs. - Oklahoma City also won the team title

2012 - Brittany Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 1st place, 191 lbs. - Oklahoma City also won the team title
2011 - Brittany Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 1st place, 80 kg. - Oklahoma City also won the team title
2010 - Brittany Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 1st place, 95 kg. - Oklahoma City also won the team title
2009 - Brittany Delgado - Oklahoma City (WCWA) - 3rd place, 95 kg. - Oklahoma City also won the team title

Brieana Delgado is currently head coach for the Central Methodist University women's wrestling program.

Women's wrestling continues to be one of the fastest growing sports at the scholastic and collegiate levels, with Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) becoming the first NCAA Division I athletic department to add a varsity women's wrestling team. Limestone College (Gaffney, SC) has also added a women's wrestling team.

In June 2019, the NCAA's Committee on Women's Athletics (CWA) has "recommended that all three divisions of the NCAA governance structure add women's wrestling as an NCAA emerging sport, effective August 1, 2020."

In January 2020, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III voted to approve women's wrestling as an Emerging Sport.

NCAA Division I voted to approve this as well in June 2020.

Women's college wrestling has existed since the early 1990's, with the first varsity team created in 1993. There have been women's college wrestling national championships, including institutions from all affiliations since 2004.

Brittany Delgado - 3x National Champion while at Oklahoma City University!

Brittany Delgado and Brieana Delgado can be found throughout the Recordbooks at SCMAT and there will always be an appreciation for their initiative in accelerating the growth of women's wrestling!
